HappyTC: Info

From today, old games (typically older than a year) will begin being “archived”.

All this really means for users is that, after clicking “history”, to see games older than a year you’ll need to click “Older games…”.

Today begins a gradual process of archiving the old games, so it may be several weeks before you notice this.

Reason for this change is to keep the current & recent game tables nimble and light, to avoid unneeded processing (which our hosting provider will like us doing).

Note that “game checklists” are not archived, so if there is anything precious in these checklists be sure to store it elsewhere. (Game checklists are not a frequently used feature of HappyTC, and in any case have never been available via the history view, so we expect the outrage over this design decision to be minimal )

Released a timezone related fix, where chalk talk was always showing up when it didn’t need to (thanks to user OlRi for pointing it out).
Also released a minor tweak related to entering attendance notes on mobile. (See the mobile beta at http://happytc.com/htc/m.)

Mobile version (beta) of HappyTC is now available at http://happytc.com/htc/m (visit that on your mobile’s browser); it is a BETA version so doesn’t yet have all features or support all mobiles.

Introduced a fix for Google Calendar schedule imports — time zones should now be converted properly to the time zone of the team, and “https” is supported. (See more info under FAQs for timezone.)

Also now allows multiple games to be imported for the same day.

…back-end change too: now warns if trying to register with an email address that was previously opted-out (blacklisted) at request of the email owner.

Added some features that have been requested off & on over the years:

1. Ability to uninvite players to games; more info in the  FAQs here.
2. Change the order players are listed in on the roster and in “pre-game status” emails; more info FAQs here.
3. For schedule exports to Google Calendar, Outlook, etc., the ability to turn off the extra all-day “rider” event that accompanies each game. (This extra event normally just results in adding an icon in Google calendar, but in some views causes problems.) More info FAQs here.

You can now update your time zone under “Your Profile”.

This will update the time zone of all teams you captain.

Most notably this affects exporting your HappyTC team schedules via “iCalendar” — the importing calendar app will now know your correct time zone. It also means that “last updated” timestamps will now reflect your own time.

• The default is Central Time, North American (the time zone of our hosting provider’s datacentre).
• Simply select your own time zone (if different) under Your Profile.
• If you had previously requested your time zone to be updated, there should be no need to do anything — it will remain as-is. You’ll just notice that now the dates & times of bulletins, chalkboard updates, and player last-access will reflect your time zone.

Bonus:
Exporting your schedule includes a fake “rider” all-day event, so that Google Calendar will show a nice “H” icon on the day of the event. This has been the case since schedule export was introduced.

• To disable this for a specific game or event: click the game’s “more…” link, and enter an underscore (_) as the first character in the “more game notes” box.
• To disable it for all games of a team, contact HappyTC customer support and we’ll arrange this for you.

OCUA users who use the iCalendar sync feature recently noticed game times being wrong (a few hours off) after syncing with HappyTC.

This should be working fine again.

We were in touch with the OCUA webmaster; OCUA calendar times were recently changed to send in GMT time zone to allow it to work properly on iPhone and other calendar apps. This has been changed back to sending in Eastern (Ottawa) time while specifying the time zone, allowing it to work properly with HappyTC again as well as the other apps.

A few minor things added:

1.) More prominent prompt when about to delete a team (tip o’ the hat to user StCr for the suggestion).

2.) For anyone crazy enough to want to deregister from HappyTC… this is now possible at the click of a button. (Before, it required sending an email to Customer Service, which could take a day or two to act on the request.)

3.) Some other minor under-the-hood updates.

…made the location clickable, clean up how the location is displayed, and include summary/description when available under the “more notes”.

Email subjects for invites/reminders and game status reports now include the game start time (if the team tracks start times, and if one has been assigned for that game).

Should be an added convenience in our time-starved, attention-deficit world — for those who are lucky to ever get past an email’s subject line (and therefore the subject must contain all critical info).
